In what sales contexts are each of the three levels most appropriate to employ?Explanation / Answer
There are two aspects of listening-
ATTENTION- It is the awareness of information we are receiving through our senses. Attentive listening makes us aware of the variety of stimuli around us.
IMPACT- This is the impact of the information we received during attentive listening.
**For an employee both aspects of listening are important or crucial.
The three levels of listening are-
Level 1- INTERNAL LISTENING -- It is very self directed and includes listening to our own thoughts and judgement. The focus is inward and personal.
**It's not appropriate for an employee to listen at this level as it can bring negative effects on client and may leave them unheard.
Level 2- FOCUSED LISTENING -- This type of listening is very intuitive and focused. It requires high level of concentration and interpretation to understand the theme and message that the client is explaining.
**This level of listening is important for an employee to understand the message and emotions behind the words of client. It also helps to know the reaction of client in accordance to the present scenario.
Level 3- GLOBAL OR WHOLE BODY LISTENING -- During this listening, the impact of surrounding on conversation is taken into account. The posture of the client and the way of talking, all matters in this level of listening. It involves all senses ie hear, smell, feel, sense.
This level of listening is also most crucial. As it involves all senses, it helps assessing the message with greater clarity and understanding. Through this listening we can have greater insight of what a client is thinking.
