Explanation / Answer

a. Avg. GR% of minroty from 1970 to 2010

(it is not mentioned whether they want CAGR or just GR%, so I will provide both.

CAGR is compounded annual growth rate)

(a)

Population (2010) = 110

Population (1970) = 30

rate of change = (110-30)/30 = 80/30 = 267%

CAGR = (110/30)^(1/40) - 1 = 3.3%

most likely CAGR is what they meant by avg. gr

(b)

Population (2010) = 195

Population (1970) = 170

rate of change = (195-170)/170 = 25/170 = 14.71%

CAGR = (195/170)^(1/40) - 1 = 3.43%

(c)

P(2020) = P(2010) * (1+CAGR)^10

P(2020) = 110 * (1+3.3%)^10

P(2020) of minortiy = 152.19

(d)

P(2020) = P(2010) * (1+CAGR)^10

P(2020) = 195 * (1+3.43%)^10

P(2020) of white = 273
