Question

For the following problem, state all the actions given in the problem from beginning to end that explain what happened to Wendall’s money in a Monopoly board game. Then, state all of the inverse actions you would need to do to solve this problem using the “Work Backwards” strategy. You do not have to solve the problem itself.

THE MONOPOLY GAME

In the last time around the game board, Wendall thought he was a goner. First, he had to pay ½ of his money in rent to somebody. He then had to pay $25 because of a “Chance” card. After that, he landed on another property where he had to pay 3/5 of his remaining money in rent. Fortunately, on his next turn he passed “Go” and collected $200. He ended up with $240. How much did he have at the beginning of this narrative?

Explanation / Answer

Let say Wendall had X amount of money intitially so Half of his money went to give rent to somebody. SO he has only $X/2 left with him.

Chance card cost = $25

so Money left = (X/2 - 25)

Now he landed on another propoerty where he had to pay 3/5 of his remaining money in rent

so Total money now in his hand = (1 - 3/5) (X/2 - 25) = 2/5 (X/2 - 25)

Now ge got "GO" and collected $200 so now he must have had 200 + 2/5 (X/2 - 25)

=> 200 + 2/5 (X /2 - 25) = 240

X/2 - 25 = 100

X/2= 125

X = $ 250.
