Aja and her sisters, nolise and clarice, arrived at home from school one afternoon. aja was really hungry and she did frist thing and went into the kitchen, there she found a plate of cookies and ate one third. Nolise came later into the kitchen and saw the cookies and ate one third of the cookies that were on the plate. Clarice came into the kitchen not realising that her sisters had already eaten some cookies, she ate one third of the cookies on the plate. When the girls mother came back she found 8 cookies were remaing how many cookies were originally on the plate. how many did each girl eat? did they share them equally? explain in detail how you sloved the answer.

Explanation / Answer

Since all of them eat one third, it would be good to assume that originally there were 27x cookies.

Thus, Aja ate = 27x/3 = 9x cookies...left = 18x

Nolise ate = 18x/3 = 6x....left = 12x

Clarice ate = 12x/3 = 4x...left = 8x

Mother found 8 cookies remaining.

Thus, 8x = 8

x = 1

So, originally there were 27*1 = 27 cookies.

Aja ate = 9*1 = 9 cookies

Nolise ate = 6*1 = 6 cookies

Clarice ate = 4*1 = 4 cookies

They didnot share the cookies equally.
