Question

Suppose that the probability that a child typing randomly on a computer will reproduce a sonnet is 0.01 the probability that a larger child will reproduce it is 0.02 which would be the probability that at least one of them reproduces it so that The work of the 2 children was independent? Suppose that the probability that a child typing randomly on a computer will reproduce a sonnet is 0.01 the probability that a larger child will reproduce it is 0.02 which would be the probability that at least one of them reproduces it so that The work of the 2 children was independent?

Explanation / Answer

Probablity that atleat one of them reproduce = (Probabilty of either child reproducing it) + (Probabilty of Both reproducing it)

Probabilty of either child repoducing it = (Smaller child producing it*larger child not producing it) + (larger child producing it*smaller child not producing it) = (0.1)*(1-0.02) + (0.2)*(1-0.1) = 0.08+0.18 = 0.26

Probabilty of both reproducing it = 0.1*0.2 = 0.02

Probability that at least one of them reproduces it = 0.26 + 0.02 = 0.28 is our answer.
