Question
Which of the following descriptions of confidence intervals is correct? (Select all that apply)
a. If a 99% confidence interval contains 0, then the 95% confidence interval contains 0
b. If a 95% confidence interval contains 0, then the 99% confidence interval contains 0
c. If a 99% confidence interval contains 1, then the 95% confidence interval contains 1
d. If a 95% confidence interval contains 1, then the 99% confidence interval contains 1
e. None of the above are correct about confidence intervals
Explanation / Answer
as the higher the confidence interval higher the width of the interval, following this logic in the question only statement B and D are correct because 95% being smaller then 99% interval, and if 95% interval contain 0 and 1 in the interval in statement B and D respectively then 99% being higher will definetly contain as the width will be higher. but the vice versa cannot be true .
hence statement B and D ARE CORRECT.
