Explanation / Answer
( I will give answer 4 subparts to this question)
To find median Q2 and the other quantiles we will follow this steps
Step 1: Order the data from smallest to largest. The data in the question is already in ascending order.
Step 2: Count how many observations you have in your data set. this particular data set has 15 items.
Step 3: Convert any percentage to a decimal for “q”. We are looking for the number where 50 percent of the values fall below it, so convert that to .5.
Step 4: Insert your values into the formula:
ith observation = q (n + 1)
ith observation = .5(15 + 1) = 8
Answer 1: The ith observation is at 8, The 8th number in the set is 74, which is the number where 50 percent of the values fall below it.
so Q2=50
2) for Q1, will set q=0.25
ith observation = q (n + 1)
ith observation = .25(15 + 1) = 4
The ith observation is at 4, The 8th number in the set is 72, which is the number where 25 percent of the values fall below it.
3)
for Q3, will set q=0.75
ith observation = q (n + 1)
ith observation = .75(15 + 1) = 12
The ith observation is at 12. The 8th number in the set is 72, which is the number where 75 percent of the values fall below it.
4) there is no such outlire present in the data
