Please provide an example of a null and alternative hypotheses for a decision that is relevant to your life. This can be a personal item or something at work. Identify the Type I and Type II errors that could occur with your decisionmaking process.

Here is an example of what I'm look for.

I am currently working with teachers and children at the David Lynch School in Tijuana, Mexico. I have a grant to develop a program called Healthy Start. The intent is to raise the nutritional IQ of teachers and the students. To measure the efficacy of the program I have proposed:

Ho: There is no difference in nutritional IQ pre and post the Healthy Start program.

H1: There is a difference in nutritional IQ pre and post the Healthy Start program.

A type I error would be rejecting a true null hypothesis. That is the program did not have any effect but the study indicated it did. Since the amount of money that could be invested in adopting this program is substantial, this could be a drain on the school.

A type II error would be not rejecting a null hypothesis that is false. This would also be problematic, since the program would not be adopted when it could be of benefit to the community.
