Explanation / Answer

Let the two legs are x and x +2

x2 + (x + 2)2 = 102

Or, x2 + x2 + 4x + 4 = 100

Or, 2x2 + 4x - 96 = 0

Or, x2 + 2x - 48 = 0

Or, x2 + 8x - 6x - 48 = 0

Or, x(x + 8) - 6(x + 8) = 0

Or, (x + 8)(x - 6) = 0

x = -8 or x = 6

So the length of one leg is 6 inches

Length of another leg = 6 + 2 = 8inches.
