Question

I need help solving my assignments in college algebra. Can you please help , and explain how you got the answers to these problems I have in algebra? The problems listed below.8+-(-2t)-14-(-5)+53-9 second problem is(-4.9)(7.2)/0 the next problem is a^3-4a/a(a-3) . a=2

Explanation / Answer

In the first problem you just simplify the expression by combining all the like terms. In this case all the numbers without a variable, t, can be combined into a single number. so, 8 + (-14) - (-5) + 53 - 9 --> 8 -14 +5 +53 -9 --> 66 - 23 --> 43 so your expression is now -(-2t) + 43 --> the two negative signs cancel out giving you an simplified expression of 2t +43. The second problem is undefined because no matter what, you cannot divide by a zero. The third problem is just a matter of plugging the value 2 in for every 'a'. so, a^3 - 4a / a(a-3) --> (2)^3 - 4(2) / (2)(2-3) --> 8 - 8 / 2(-1) --> 0 / -2 --> 0 zero multiplied or divided by any number is zero. Therefore the answer to the third problem is zero because 8 - 8 = 0. Keep in mind that if the zero would have been in the denominator (the bottom of the fraction) the expression would have been undefined because you cannot divide by zero. I hope that my explanations were helpful and well defined. Good luck!
