One travels at 50 mph and the other travels at 70 mph.In how many hours will they be 60 miles apart? The possible answers are:      a. 20 hours      b. 5 hours      c. 1 hour      d. 3 hours

Explanation / Answer

Therefore think of it this way: 1 hour - 50 miles 2 hours - 100 miles 3 hours - 150 miles
And the other car: 1 hour - 70 miles 2 hours - 140 miles 3 hours - 210 miles With that now you can solve for the difference betweenthem. 1 hour -> 70 miles - 50 miles = 20 miles 2 hours -> 140 miles - 100 miles = 40 miles 3 hours -> 210 miles - 150 miles = 60 miles After 3 hours they will be 60 miles apart
