x = the number of pennies
you have twice as many quarters as pennies, so: 2x = # of quarters
you have twenty times as many half dollars as quarters,so: 20(2x) = 40x = # of half dollars
multiply each by the their corresponding value and set equalto the amount of change: (.01)x + (.25)2x + (.50)4x = 20.51
solve for x and you can determine how many of each.
