Question

Whomever it may concern:
I currently have a math teacher that skipped a lesson in AdvancedAlgebra in the Chicago Math Program. It is over a chapter 4 test,and he skipped 4-9, but i bet he'll put it on the test anyways (heusually does things like this.)
I have a TI-84 Silver Edition Graphing Calculator, if thishelps.
First off, the test is about transformations of matrixes.
The book's Definition of a transformation is:
"A one to one correspondence from the preimage to the image."
What does this include? Rotation, translation, reflection?
Also, transforming an object? What is this, and how is itwritten?

Find an equation of the line through the point (2,-5) perpendicularto the like y=(1/3x +1)
this is something i found in the Chapter Review.
would this come out to y=-3x-5?
Please show how you did this.

Greatly appreciated!

Explanation / Answer

Find an equation of the line through the point (2,-5) perpendicularto the like y=(1/3x +1) this is something i found in the Chapter Review. would this come out to y=-3x-5? Please show how you did this. Greatly appreciated!    y = 1/3x + 1 , say m1 = 1/3 perpendicular : m1 * m2 = -1 => 1/3 * m2 = -1 => m2 = -3 equation line : y + 5 = -3 (x - 2)                         y + 5 = -3x + 6 => y = -3x + 1
