Question
Is it even possible to solve this question? I think it lacksof information but I'm not really sure how to get the answer. All Iknow is that the radius is 3960 and then nothing I can see to solveit. Anyone can help? Thanks in advance! Additional informations (update: 06/04/09): All right this is the whole question: 9.a: Space Travel- An astronaut directly over the equatorestimates that the angle formed by the two tangents to the equatioris 20 degrees. What arc of the equator is visible to theastronaut? Answer is 160 degrees. I got this one : ) Now for theother... 9.b: The radius of Earth is about 3960 mi. About how far isthe spaceship from earth? Picture::: Some ideas: my teacher told me to bisect the angle 20 degrees to thecenter of the Earth (that would turn 20 into 10). Then use theformula tangent(degrees)=opposite/adjacent to find the distance (itwould be tan(10degrees)=3960mi/x where x is the distance). I didthat what she told me to do but the answer I got is not the same asthe answer in the back of the book. It is either that thegiven formula is wrong or I did some mathematical calculationswrong.Explanation / Answer
hey can you read the question that you wondering about (i dont havethe book)
