Question

A company that manufactures toothpaste is studying five different package designs. Assuming that one design is just as likely to be selected by a consumer as any other design, what selection probability would you assign to each of the package designs?

What did i do wrong? Thanks

A company that manufachuras tonthpasta is studying ive diffarant package designs. Assuming that ona design is just as likaly to be selectad by a consumer as any ather dasign, what selaction prohability would you assign to aach of the package designs? We would assign a probability of In an actual experimernt, 100 consumers were asked to pick the design they preferred. The following data were obtained. X to the design 1 outcome, e -X to design2,% X to design 3, 35 .x to dasign 4, and 25 to dasign DesignNumber of Times Preferred 10 25

Explanation / Answer

Here we are assuming that one design is just as likely to be selected by a customer as any other

since there are 5 design in total
hence probability = 1/5 = 0.2 for each design

Extra: -
However , according to the actual experiment :

P(package 1 is selected ) = 5/100 = 0.05

P(package 2 is selected ) = 10/100 = 0.1

P(package 3 is selected ) = 25/100 = 0.25

P(package 4 is selected ) = 35/100 = 0.35

P(package 5 is selected ) = 25/100 = 0.25

clearly, we see that all the probabilities differ from one another according to the actual experiment of 100 samples.

So, the data does not confirm the belief that one design is just as likely to be selected by a consumer as any other design.
