Question

Among the following, select ALL the research questions that can be answered by linear regression (simple or multiple). O We want to know if, in average, the number of medals won by a nation during the Olympic games increases with the population size of the nation. We have the number of medals won by 62 nations that participated in the 1992 Olympic games of Barcelona, and their population sizes in 1992. Based on data collected from US Bureau of the Census on the 50 states, we want to explain life expectancy (in year) based on per capita income, illiteracy (percentage of population), murder and non-negligent manslaughter rate per 100,000 population. In the last few months Penn State Creamery collected data about the quantity of ice cream sold (in gallons), outside temperature, humidity and whether it was sunny or not. Data were collected every day, so we cannot assume the measurements to be independent. Based on the weather forecast, they want to predict the quantity of ice cream they will be able to sell tomorrow. @ A pharmaceutical company would like to start selling a new drug, but it is afraid the drug has the side effect of increasing the blood pressure. We perform an experiment: we administer the drug to 12 volunteers, and for each of them we report the difference between their blood pressure before and after they take the drug. We want to use these data to understand if the drug indeed increases the blood pressure.

Explanation / Answer
