Problem 1 (25 points) Assume your company builds a component that is comprised of three panels. You build each of the panels using a different process and tooling. Panel 1 uses a tool that wears out consistently over time. Therefore the variation in panel height is uniformly distributed between 2.0 and 2.1 mm with the variation largely related to tool wear. Panels 2 and 3 have well defined, stable, and in-control processes. Therefore, the variation in panel height is a function of the natural variation inherent in their respective processes. Panel 2 height is normally distributed with a mean of 4.0 mm and standard deviation of 0.1 mm. Panel 3 height is normally distributed with a mean of 2.0 mmm and standard deviation of 0.05 mm. The customer specification has a maximum height of 8.2 mm. Any components greater than 8.2 mm are rejected. Use Monte Carlo simulation to determine the reject rate for this component.
