Big Burger is a fast food restaurant that has 450 locations all over the U.S. Use the excel output above to answer the following question.
Question:
What is the probability a selected restaurant is in the south and in a city with a population size of 50,000 or more?
KEY
Region 1 = NW
Population 1 = Under 50,000
Region 2 = SW
Population 2 = 50,000 - 100,000
Region 3 = NE
Population 3 = Over 100,000
Region 4 = SE
Explanation / Answer
A selected restaurant is in south if it is in south west or
south east i.e. region 2 and region 4. A selected restaurant
is in a city with population size of 50000 or more if it is in
population 2 or population 3.
So, we have to choose (2,2),(2,4),(3,2) and (3,4)-th cell.
So, total such population = 36 + 31 + 48 + 32 = 147.
Hence, required probability = 147/450 = 0.3267. (Ans).
