Question

Question 2) Suppose El Camino is interested in studying how full math classes are 2 weeks after the semester has started. To do this they divide all math classes into developmental level and transfer level and randomly select 9 sections from each level. This means overall they look at 18 math classes. For each math class they check the enrollment after 2 weeks and record this value. They get the following data (note, each value is the number of students currently enrolled) 17,20,23, 25, 26, 28,30,31,32, 32, 33, 35, 35,37, 38,38, 39,40 (a) What is the population in this question? (b) What is the sample in this question? (c) What is an individual in this question? (d) What type of sampling was used to build this sample? (e) Construct a histogram with class size 5 starting at 15 for this data. Describe the shape. (f) Calculate the mean, median, and standard deviation for this data. Does the relationship you see between the mean and median agree with the shape you found in part (d)?

Explanation / Answer

a) POPULATION : Here population is the attendance of all math classes.

b) Sample : Sample is ateendance of 9 randomly selected sections of 2 levels.

c) INDIVIDUAL : Here each section of math class is an Individual.

d) here simple random sampling is used.

e) For this part, I am sharing the link to my drive where I have uploaded the excel file with the data and the histogram.

f)   Mean StDev Median
31.00 6.65 32.00

As, Mean < median ; thus the distribution is negatively skewed. So, it agrees with the pattern found in e.
