Question

The following data represents the age of 30 lottery winners. Round answers to 4 decimal places. Given the frequency distribution for the data, Age Frequency Relative Frequency Cumulative Relative Frequency 0.1333 0.1333 0.1667 0.2667 0.2667 0.1333 0.2666 0.4333 0.7 0.9667 0.9667 4 4 [20,29] [30,39 40.49 [50,59] [60,69 70,791 80,89] 0.0333 a. What is the frequency of lottery winners of age between 20 and 39? b. What percentage of lottery winners are 70 years or older? c. What is the relative frequency of ages 40 to 49 d. What is the cumulative relative frequency of lottery winners younger than 50? e. How many lottery winners were between 60 and 69 years old?

Explanation / Answer

a) frequency of age [ 20,29 ] and age [30,39] are 4 & 4 respectively.

Total = 4+4 = 8 is the frequency of lottery winners of age between 20 and 39.

b) relative frequency of age (70,79) is 0 and age (80,89) is 0.0333

Answer:- 3.33% percentage of lottery winners are 70 years or older.

c) relative frequency of ages 40 and 49 is [5/30] = 0.1667.

d) (20,29) , (30,39) and (40,49) these are younger than 50.

So we have relative frequency of these group of ages

0.1333, 0.1333 and 0.1667 respectively.

We add all the relative frequencies

The cumulative relative frequency is 0.4333

0.4333 is the cumulative relative frequency of lottery winners younger than 50.

e) we have given a frequency for age group (60,69) is 8.

Answer:-   8 were the lottery winners between 60 and 69 years old.
