a.) factor
b.) response
c.) process
d) all of the above
35. The alternative hypothesis states what it is you are trying to prove.
True or False
Explanation / Answer
(31) Answer : d) All are useful
Explanation : We show how each of FMEA, RPN and SIPOC can be used to identify factors in DOE :
FMEA : Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) is a step-by-step approach for identifying all possible failures in a design, a manufacturing or assembly process, or a product or service. Therefore, we can easily identify the factors which affect the process output.
RPN : The Risk Priority Number, or RPN, is a numerical assessment of risk assigned to a process. It is part of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), in which a team assigns each failure mode numeric values that quantify likelihood of occurrence, likelihood of detection, and severity of impact. Clearly, in this method of calculating RPN, we can easily find factors for DOE.
SIPOC : Every item under the SIPOC categories of input and process is a potential source of variation in the output to be considered or investigated. Once the SIPOC diagram is created, look at the items identified under each SIPOC category and consider how they can influence the process outputs.
Hence, answer is (d).
(32) Answer : (c) noise
Explanation : Factors which cannot be accounted for are going to produce effects on the output response variable. But we can not account for this effect since we only model our process based on Factors under consideration. Hence, these extra variables will create extraneous effect known as noise.
(33) Answer : False
Explanation : Factors are actually independent variables over which we do not have any control. They vary on their own. We have control over only the response variables or also called as dependent variables.
(34) Answer : (b) Response
Explanation : Customer satisfaction is a variable which we can control by ensuring to meet certain levels on our factor variables. We examine the effect of different factor values on the response of the process.
(35) Answer : TRUE
Explanation : Usually, the Null hypothesis statement is something which we assume as status quo. Then we collect data and compute statistical evidence to provide sufficient evidence against the assumed status quo. Therefore, by going with such philosophy, we easily see that It it the Alternative Hypothesis which we are trying to prove using evidence in Data.
