Explanation / Answer

a) In a lot of 48, 2 ardefective. 46 are good. To get both defective in the lot of 4, he must choose both defective radios in 2C2 ways = 1 and 2 non defective from 46 in 46C2 ways = 1035.

Therefore favourable outcomes = 1 * 1035 = 1035

Total outcomes = choosing 4 radios out of 48 in 48C4 ways = 194580

Required Probability = 1035/194580 = 0.0053

(b) To get both non defective in the lot of 4, he must choose 0 defective radios in 2C0 ways = 1 and 4 non defective from 46 in 46C4 ways = 163185.

Therefore favourable outcomes = 1 * 163185 = 163185

Total outcomes = choosing 4 radios out of 48 in 48C4 ways = 194580

Required Probability = 163185/194580 = 0.8386
