2)
Note: It's obvious that David Beckham doesn't know stats that well based on his answer.
Note: We do NOT look at Levene's Test to test for a difference in population means. It is ONLY used to determine which t-test / t-confidence interval to use. If the p-value for Levene's Test is GREATER than .05, we use the pooled t-test. If the p-value is LESS than .05, we must use the non-pooled t-test.
----------------
Answer:
Method #1 - Since the p-value = .947 > alpha = .05, we can conclude that the population means are NOT significantly different.
Method #2 - Since the 95% confidnece interval DOES include 0, we can conclude that the population means are NOT significantly different.
----------------
Discussion:
* Whenever the p-value < alpha, we CAN reject Ho and conclude that the population means ARE significantly different. Whenever the p-value > alpha, we can NOT reject Ho. So, we must conclude that the population means are NOT significantly different.
* If Ho is true (ie the population means are equal), then their difference should be 0. If 0 is NOT in our 95% CI, we can reject Ho and conclude that the population means ARE significantly different. If the CI does NOT inlcude 0, we can NOT conclude that the population means are significantly different.
