Question

This Question: 15 pts 10 of 20 (6 complete) Determine whether the following probability experiment represents a binomial experiment and explain the reason for your answer An experimental drug is administered to 20 randomly selected individuals, with the number of individuals responding favorably recorded Does the probability experiment represent a binomial experiment? O A. No, because the trials of the experiment are not independent O B. No, because there are more than two mutually exclusive outcomes for each trial. O C. No, because the probability of success differs from trial to trial O D. Yes, because the experiment satisfies all the criteria for a binomial experiment.

Explanation / Answer

A binomial experiment is an experiment which satisfies these four conditions:

(i)A fixed number of trials.

(ii)Each trial is independent of the others.

(iii)There are only two outcomes.

(iv)The probability of each outcome remains constant from trial to trial.

Here,

(i)Number of trials is 20 which is fixed.

(ii) Response of each individual to drug is independent.

(iii)There are only two outcomes i.e. responding favorably or not.

(iv)The probability of each outcome remains constant from trial to trial i.e we have to assume here some probability p which is probability of response to treatment is favorably & is constant for each individual.

Hence , answer of this question is option D.
