Question
1 of 1 Due: Wednesday 2/28/2018 Name: vork l. You are applying for jobs at two con·panies. Company A ofers starting salaries with -$31,000 and -S10X. Company B offers starting salaries with -831.000 and -SS000. From which company are you more likely to get an offer of $33,000 or more? Explain your reasoning. 2. Data set: Ages of 30 executives 43 57 65 4757 415653 61 54 56 61 | 47 40 43 41 (a) Find the percentile that corresponds to an age of 56 years old. (b) Which ages are above the 75th percentile? How should you interpret this?Explanation / Answer
a) Since the standard deviation of salary of the B company is more and so the range of salary will be more.
So it is very clear that the area to the right of 33000 value would be more for B than for A.
And so from company B there is a greater chance of getting a salary of 33000 or more.
b) By arranging the given data in the ascending order we get 56 in three places 22nd, 23rd and 24th.
There are total 30 numbers. So percentile corresponding to 56 is = (24/30) = 0.80 = 80 percentile.
c) To calculate values greater than 75 percentile
30 * 0.75 = 22.5
So all numbers when arranged in ascending order, then numbers from 23rd to 30th belongs to range greater than 75 percentile. The values are 56, 56, 57, 57, 61, 61, 65 and 66.
