Exercise 09.05 (Self-Test) Algorithmic eBook Video Duke Energy reported that the cost of electricity for an efficient home in a particular neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio was $108 per month. A researcher believes that the cost of electricity for a comparable neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois is higher. A sample of homes in this Chicago neighborhood will be taken and the sample mean monthly cost of electricity will be used to test the following null and alternative hypotheses. Ho: 108 Ha: > 108 a. Explanation / Answer

(a) If the null Hypothesis is rejected : There is sufficient evidence to conclude that the cost of electricity in a comparable neighbourhood in Chicago is greater than $108.

(b) The Type I error is Incorrectly Rejecting H0, when it is True.

The consequence would be that although the neighbourhood in chicago is efficient (H0 < 108), it will be deemed inefficient as we have rejected the null and accepted the Alternate.

(c) The Type II error is Incorrectly Retaining H0, when it is False.

The consequence would be that although the neighbourhoodis inefficient (Ha > 108), it will be deemed as efficient as we retain the incorrect null hypothesis.
