Question

5.n4 W h th at's wrong? In each of the following scenarios, ere is something wrong. Describe what is wrong and give a reason for your answer. three times, then the probability of getting a tail on the (a) If you toss a fair coin three times and get heads all next toss is much greater than a half. (b) If you multiply a random variable by 10, then the mean is multiplied by 10 and the variance is multiplied by 10. (c) When finding the mean of the sum of two random val riab les, you need to know the correlation between them

Explanation / Answer

a) as outcome on fair dice is independent ; tehrefore the outcome in next toss does not depend on prior events; otherwise it will violate indepednence condition.

b)when we multiply a random variable by 10 then its variance is multiplied by 100 as variance is square sum of deviation and as deviation will go 10 times so variance will go 100 times.

c)mean of sum of two random variables does not depend on correlation. It is variance and std deviation whcih depends on correlation.
