The clay soil is commonly available in many parts of the world & with different types of minerals& of different charactersis found. 1) Kaolinite2) Vermiculite 3) smectite 4) Calcium Smectite 5) Attapulgite 6)Chlorite.
Initally it can be checked by physical appearence or to check hold more water, slow absorption& release of water.
B) chemical analysis of clay , diferent procedures are followed.
the physical characteristics such specfic gravity, color , hardness .The fined grained materials are analysed by instrumental techniques such Infra spectropscopy, x-ray diffraction ,thermal analysis & even under the electron microscope.
More deeply the presence of compounds like iron . sillicates ,sillica may prove the conditon of clay present.
