Mome Test I: Chapters 1-4 P 1 of 7 1. Provide short succinet written answers to the following conceptual questions (a) (I point) Would mass in grams be classified as a sominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio level of messurement? (b) (I point) Which of the following measures of variation is most efected by outliens IQR, standard deviation, range (e) (I point) What percent of data is greater than Qs? (d) (1 point) If the mean, median, and mode for a data set are all the same, what can you conclude about the data's distribation? (e) (1 point) If the median is greater than the mode for a data set, what can you conclude about the data's distribution? (0) (1 point) What does the standard deviation represent conceptually in words? (Be concise but don't simply state the equation in words verbatim.) ()(1 point) Give an example of sampling erro? (h) (2 points) A box plot is a useful tool that can quickly communicate many traits about a set of data. List 4 useful pieces of information that an observer an easily box plot uing (G) (1 point) You scored in the 78th peroentile on the GRE. If 8,000 people took the GRE how many people had a score at least as high as your score? Points earned / 10 points

Explanation / Answer

1) Mass value starts from Zero. So, it will be a Ratio. Ratio has a true zero point like ratio, proportions, scale..etc

2) Most affected by outliers is the standard deviation.

The standard deviation is a measure of dispersion from a mean. If observation is an outlier then variation between mean and observation will be more.

Range= Maximum-Minimum(It also affected by an outlier)

IQR= Interquartile range= Q3-Q1( Middle 50% data in the boxplot)

3)The data distribution in a Boxplot:

Less than Q1=25%

Q1-Q2= 25%

Q2-Q3=25%

>Q3= 25%

4) When mean, median and mode are same, then the distribution of data to be approximately symmetrical and data distributed normally as standard normal distribution.
