Based on Data Set 11 in Appendix B, the Best Actresses have a mean age of 35.9 years and a standard deviation of 11.1 years. The Best Actors have a mean age of 44.1 years and a standard devia- tion of 9.0 years. (All ages are determined at the time of the awards ceremony.) Relative to their genders, who was younger when winning the Oscar: Sandra Bullock or Jeff Bridges? Explain.

Among actresses, Given: µ = 35.9, = 11.1 and among actors Given: µ = 44.1, = 9

Z = (X - µ)/

Z score for Sandra Bullock = (45 - 35.9)/11.1 = 0.82

Z score for Jeff Bridges = (60 - 44.1)/9 = 1.767

Now both the ages are standardized by the z score and comparing them, sandra bullock has a lower Z score, and hence was relatively younger than Jeff Bridges when winning the Oscar.
