Question

1.Given a standard deck of cards number of favorable outcomes/ total number of possible outcomes. PLEASE SHOW WORK.

a.What is the probability that the first card chosen at random will be a Face card?

b. If the first card selected was a Face card, what is the probability that a Face card will be drawn on the second selection (assuming that the first card was not replaced.

c.What is the probability that the first card selected will be a Face card and the second card selected will be a Face card (assuming that the first card was not replaced

Explanation / Answer

Number of cards in a deck = 52

Number of face cards = 12

Hence,

a) P(First card is face card) = 12/52 = 4/13

b) P(Second card is face card | First card selected was face card) = 11/51

[Since after first face card selection, only 51 cards will remain in deck in which 11 will be the remaining face cards].

c) P(First face card and second face card) = (12/52)*(11/51) = 11/221
