Question
For your post, choose one of the following variables the authors include in Table 1: How much R wants to go to college; How likely R will go to College; Parent College Aspirations for R; PVT score; or Self-rated intelligence Using the information in the data and methods section, explain in your own words what the variable measures and how it is measured. Then compare 3 of the 5 groups (Non-Latino White, Non-Latino Black; Mexican; Puerto Rican; and/or Cuban) listed using the variable you chose and the measures of means and the standard deviations provided in the table for that variable (the standard deviations are in the parentheses)Explanation / Answer

3 groups chosen for deeper analysis: Non-Latino White, Mexican, Cuban
These 3 groups have been chosen basically because these 3 cover total disparity amongthe 5 groups in terms of sample size, mean and standard deviation.
Comparative Analysis:
1. Non-Latino White, which accounts for 60% of the total sample size has the greatest mean
of 104.8 and the lowest SD of 10.6. Or to combine both, has a CV of 10%.
The mean is above the overall mean of101.7 and the only group to have mean exceeding
the overall mean, Also, has the SD which is just 80% of the overall SD of 13.3.
2. Mexican: occupies the other end of the spectrum so far as mean is concerned with the lowest mean of 92.7. On SD, it is somewhere in the middle. CV of17% again puts the group in the middle.
3. Cuban: occupies the other end of the spectrum so far as SD is concerned with the highest SD of 33.9. On mean, it is somewhere in the middle. CV of 35% again puts the group at the top.
