Question
A university's Admissions staff sends one of four different representatives to work at college fairs. A study was conducted to evaluate the relative effectiveness of the four representatives. For each college fair over the course of the year, the number of inquiries from students, the type of fair (large or small), the representative who worked at that fair, and the percent of inquiries that resulted in applications were recorded. It was found that one of the representatives was far more effective at getting lots of inquiries. a. What are the cases in this study? b. What are the variables recorded in this study? List them and identify each as either categorical or quantitative c. Is this an observational study or an experiment? Briefly justify your answer. Can we conclude that sending the most effective representative to more college fairs will increase the number of inquiries from those college fairs? Why or why not? d. Briefly explain the distinction between an observational study and a designed experiment. e.Explanation / Answer
a. The cases in this study is to evaluate the realtive effectiveness of four representatives in college fair.
b. The variables recorded in this study are the number of inquiries from the students (quantitative variable), the type of fair (large or small) (categorical variable), the representative who works in the fair(categorical variable) and the percent of inquires that resulted in applications were recorded(quantitative variable).
c) It is an observational study. In an observational study investigators observe subjects and measure variables of interest without assigning treatments to the subjects. The treatment that each subject receives is determined beyond the control of the investigator. Hence it is an observational study.
d) After we have gathered data for all the four representatives, we will conduct statistical analysis to check the
difference in the relative effectiveness is random / insignificant or the difference is statistically significant. If the analysis shows the difference is statistically significant. Then we can conclude the representative with best outcome is more effective then rest others.
according to chegg policy only 1st four should be answered
