He produced his list of suspects and descriptions: Dana Wilde: scar on left cheek Cary Steele: purple hair Morgan Fleece: tall and blonde Connie Theeves: birthmark on left wrist When the list landed on the arresting detective’s desk, he was furious. He went to the sergeant and said, “Jean-Paul, you might be having a bad day, but this list is full of mistakes. The rst and last names are all mismatched. And none of the descriptions matches either the rst or the last name it is listed with. Do you think you can x this? ”The sergeant replied, “Sorry, Dick. I am having a bad day. But I think I need a little bit more information.” The detective answered, “Okay, Jean-Paul. Here’s some more info. Connie has purple hair to match her purple high-tops. The men are Steele and Fleece. A woman has the scar. Do you think you can straighten out this mess now? ”The sergeant now determined the rst and last names of each suspect, as well as their descriptions. You work it out too.

This problem can be solved using simple elimination method:

I will explain how i solved the problem:

Connie has purple hair; and it is given that connieis "her" , so connie is Female; steele and fleece is for male; and originally connie had surname "Theeves" so only remaining one is "Wilde"; Cary has "steele" which is mismatch, and

so, 1] Connie Wilde - Purple Hair

This mean that one with "theeves " is female; and she has "scarred cheek"

so, Purple hair is done; scarred cheek is done and males steele and fleece have either "Birthmark" or "Tall and blonde" but fleece is initially mentioned Tall and blonde. Fleece is actually one with "Birthmark" and steele is Tall and Blonde

Now, steele was initially cary so it can be only Dana or Morgan but since steele is tall and blonde , it removes Morgan (initially mentioned).So,

2] Dana Steele is Tall and Blonde

Now, we are left with

3] Cary Fleece who has Birthmark

4] Morgan theeves with scarred cheek
