Question

Thank You

Vesicle + Protein 06. I have a pure protein that I suspect is involved in the ETC. To test this, I embed the protein in a vesicle containing a mixture of NADH and FADH2 (see schematic) and then measure the pH of the vesicle over time. The membrane of the vesicle contains Coenzyme Q (note: Q # QH) I also repeat the experiment with an empty vesicle (i.e., a vesicle that contains no proteins). My data is shown in the figure. Based on this, circle whether the protein can, or cannot be each of the ETC complexes, and explain your reasoning for each case. (20 pts) Empty vesicle Time Complex I: CAN CANNOT BE Reason: unsi GLrv Complex It: CAN / CANNOT BE Reason Complex II CAN CANNOT BE Reason: p Complex IV: CAN /CANNOT BE Reason: i

Explanation / Answer

answer:complex 1 canbe

reason:-

ETC contains four protein complexes in series in the inner mitochondrial membrane. they are:

complex 1 : NADH, COENZYME Q reductase. complex 2 : succinate COENZYME Q reductase. complex 3 : coenzyme Q cytochrome c reductase. complex 4 : cytocrome c oxidase.

the question says that the vesical contains the NADH and FADH2 and membrane of the vesical contains co Q. here the vesical membrane is like inner mitochondrial membreane. the protein in the membrane oxidised NADH by removing two electrons. these transfered electrons are carried by co Q. this function is done by complex 1. it translocates 4 protons outside the vesical thus it shows increse in ph when you measure the ph if vesical.
