Question

At its website (www.gallup.com) the Gallup World Poll reports results of surveys conducted in various places around the world. At the end of one of these reports about the effects of climate change on Africans, they describe their methods, including explanations such as the following:

Results are based on face-to-face interviews with 1,000 adults, aged 15 and older, each in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe throughout 2007. For results based on a total sample of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is +/- 5 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

    A) Gallup is interested in the opinions of Africans, What kind of survey design are they using?

    B) Some of the countries surveyed have larger populations. (South Africa is estimated to have over 50 million people.) Some are quite small. (Zimbabwe has fewer than 13,000,000 people.) Nonetheless, Gallup sampled 1,000 adults in each country. How does this affect the precision of its estimates for these countries?

Explanation / Answer

A) From given datae face to face interviews conducte to 1000 adults whose age is 15 years and above.

Here, we have data from various countries and the population size of thse countries are different,so in means that to get reliable information from various countries most preferred survey is Stratified random sampling

B) In question it self mentioned that the population size is different in different countries. At time of conducting survey we must know that how much sample we must collect from the different population other wise there is an sampling error will occures. While collecting sample from the different population of the countries no of sample that is 20 to 30% is the suitable samples from the population with respective countries.
