Will someone please translate this into English and solve this statistics problem so it'd make more sense in my brain? This is math-speak and clearly the wording of the question is really confusing.

Here's the question:

Compute the arithmetic mean and median for the difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respectively, taken in different positions (recumbent minus standing).

Here's the data table (each row corresponds to 1 patient):

Please explain and show work clearly and thoroughly.

You have to find the mean and median for the difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure for the two sets of data given.

Therefore you will first find the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure for the 2 types of data.

Mean (Recumbent) = [(40+48+46+42+36+46+48+30)/8]

= 336/8 = 42

Median = [(N/2)th obs + ((N/2)+1)th obs]/2

= [4th obs + 5thobs]/2

For median we arrange all the observations in ascending order.

30 36 40 42 46 46 48 48

Median = (42 + 46)/2 = 4

Mean(Standing) = ( 34 + 40 + 36 + 30 + 30 + 40 + 38 + 24)/8

= 272/8 = 34

= [4th obs + 5thobs]/2

For median we arrange all the observations in ascending order.
