Question

Leisure In one of the rides at an amusement park, you sit in a circular "car" and cause it to rotate by turning a wheel in the center. The faster you turn the wheel, the faster the cat rotates. How far from the center of the car are you sitting if your car makes one revolution every 3 seconds and your linear speed is 5 feet per second? Express your answer in feet. Explanation / Answer

We want to find the radius r of the circle. One revolution is 2pi radians, so we travel 2pi radians in 3 seconds giving us

2pi/3 radians per second

= 2pi*r/3 feet per second

But we know we're moving at 5 feet per second so

2pi*r/3 = 5

And we can just solve for r

2pi*r = 15

r = 15/(2pi) = 2.4 feet

Hope it helps..!!!
