Question
The number of people afflicted with the common cold in the winter months steadily decreased by 50 each year from 2004 until 2010. In 2004, 875 people were inflicted. Find the linear function that models the number of people inflicted with the common cold C as a function of the year, t. When will no one be afflicted? So I set it up as C(T)= -50t + 875 To find when no one will be aflficted I equaled it to zero, subtracted 875 to other side, -875=-50t divided (-875/-50)=t and I got t= 17.5. I then added that to 2004 and got 2021.5 which I then rounded to 2022. Is the year 2022 correct?
Explanation / Answer
yes, you have done it correctly, the year 2022 is the correct answer, because here for 2004, you have took t=0, so we will definitely add 17.5 with 2004, and hence, we will get 2021.5, so 2022 is the correct answer.
