I am mainly worried about the compressed horizontally by 1/8. does that mean k=8 or k=1/8. if it said stretched horizontally then I would know that it would be k=8 but due to the wording I keep second guessing myself. please answer this clearly and specifically, thank you~

if it is compressed by x . then k = 1/x
and note x will be less than 1 (a fraction)
for example
if y - 2 = f ((3*x)
Compare y - k = af(b(x -h)) to :
k = 2, b = 3
So, the graph of y f(x) is horizontally compressed by a factor of 1/3, then translated 2 units up.
