Question

I am mainly worried about the compressed horizontally by 1/8. does that mean k=8 or k=1/8. if it said stretched horizontally then I would know that it would be k=8 but due to the wording I keep second guessing myself. please answer this clearly and specifically, thank you~

k 2: Thinking questions Determine the logarithmic equation in base 2 that has been compressed vertically by a tacior of compressed horizontally by a factor of N. reflected in 1ne z-axs and translated 4 units to the ust me vakuees for a, k c and d 4 marks)

Explanation / Answer

the factor corresponding to horizontal compression will be 8 only . ,

if it is compressed by x . then k = 1/x

and note x will be less than 1 (a fraction)

for example

if y - 2 = f ((3*x)

Compare y - k = af(b(x -h)) to :

k = 2, b = 3

So, the graph of y f(x) is horizontally compressed by a factor of 1/3, then translated 2 units up.
