Question

Module 04 Discussion-Viral Treatment Options There are many opinions on the need and/or importance of vaccines in preventing the spread of disease. Our children are required to get vaccinations before entering school, and health care workers must have them when working in environments where they can come into contact with bloodborne pathogens. In health care facilities, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis C (HCV) are the two more prominent infectious concems for medical staff For your initial post, essarch the two diseases HIV and HCV Based on your resesarch, dscuss whether you thnk that a vacine ill brether of these diseases within the next ten years. Why or why not?

Explanation / Answer

Vaccine will be developed for either and hopefully both HIV and HCV in the near future.infact several clinical trials are still in progress that focus on developing vaccination against these diseases, but a effective vaccine has still not been developed for these diseases because in order to be curative and preventive the vaccine should have the potential to overcome the following hurdles-

A)the viruses responsible for causing these diseases are readily effected by environment and genetic factors and as a result of it undergo mutation.so a specific vaccine to cure all is a long process.

B)several vaccines have shown effect on a small scale of population but on a large scale they become futile .because of rapid changes in the affected population as well as the parasite involved.

C)our immune system works on t and b cells.hiv actually results in developode affected t helper cells..so even after multiplication of the t cells , actually defected t cells are being produced.and when by vaccine protocol immune system is kickstarted it eventually produces defective t cells only.

D)vaccine has to produce overall immunuty but the vaccine trial currently available in market focus on either the local effects of the disease or infection or the systemic factors..a true vaccine should be able to provide protection for both.

E)vaccinating a kid in childhood or rather as an infant will be ineffective if booster dose of certain vaccination are not provided.in a similar way immune system keeps on developing till teenage years.so childhood vaccination may not be a long term goal for life long immunity.

F) a common vaccine for both HIV and HCV would lead to reducing the risk of coinfection and the frequency of epidemic out break.
