select a community and describe the kinds of health problems that warrant consideration as top priorities. Be sure to
1-Describe the population with respect to the age distribution.
2-What policies have been put in place to address the problem (s)?
3-What policies would you propose to alleviate the problem (s)?
Explanation / Answer
Water borne diseases should be on top priorities, but unfortunately we are not considering it. Talking about a community of jharkhand (oraons) who were using water resources such as lakes and ponds. There is a absence of any river in jharkhand and it is a mountain area so there is a scarcity of water throuhout the year. The water available here contain excess iron and the quality of water is also bad because people dump waste in water sources making it unfit for drinking and causes many diseses such as -Malaria,Cholera,Shigellosis,Hepatitis A,Dengue fever,Leptospirosis,Typhoid Fever etc.
a. The population of oraons are approx 10 lakhs .childrens and adult population is large . They uses direct water from lakes and ponds which are contaminated. They lives near hazaribag and Ranchi. They donot have technology and money to clean that water and then use it. In this way many diseases transmit from water. Government try to clean water resources and have made several policies but on rural areas these policies are meaningless.
b. There are many policies to prevent contamination , one of the recent program was ban on plastic to restrict pollution but unfortunately stooping the shopkeepers to sell plastic on the other hand no restriction on companies in the manufacturing of plastic bag's is one of its demerits. Illegal selling of plastic is also there.
Proper cleaning of water resources on regular basis. Removal of plastics and glass items and another wastes away from water resources.Free regular health checkup's in those areas.
3. People participation is important to alelivate problems because most of the problem is there because of pollution. We people are causing pollution so we have to control it.
Penalty sholud be fined on those who dump waste in water.
Awareness about the disease should be spread.
Clean drinking water should not be our attempt, clan water resources should be.
These policies I would like to propose to alleviate the problem.
