• What do you think about the creation of new medical disorders (i.e., Social Anxiety Disorder)?

• Do you think that free prescription drug samples are good for consumers? Can you think of any potential downside in handing out free samples?

• What do you think doctors and other prescribers can do to resist influence of Big Pharma? Do you think the doctors and prescribers that you know are aware of these issues? How do you feel about this?

Explanation / Answer

a) Social anxiety disorder is a disorder in which the suffering person feels panic in many social engagements. This panic arises not only during some social occasions, but could also impair some daily activities of the person e.g the person may be afraid to eat, drink or even work in front of others. Some physical symptoms include excessive blushing, excess sweating, trembling, palpitations, nausea and stammering. Due to specific reason a bit of fear in social gathering could also be in a normal person, but disturbing daily ativities becaue of this fear, is a disorder.

b) Cognitive behavioral Therapy is one important treatment option for this therapy, which is much better than free prescription drug samples. However, due to the mental state of the patient, he/she is more prone to take this free prescription drug, but these could have side effects.

c) Many Doctors are aware of these issues. Counselling is a better option of treating the patients than using drugs by big pharma because they could have potential side effects.
