s, 12 seconds. v Question Completion Status: Question 26 Match the following terms to their definitions. Map symbol sizes change according to the range of values it represents. A. Datum B. Map template C. Ordinal data D. Graduated symbols E. Proportional symbols. NAD83 is an example of this type of reference system that describes the size and shape of the earth. Ranked soil classes (1 best, 2 not so good, 3 bad) Assist in standardizing map products and save time in mapping. Give all maps in a series the same look. Map symbol size reflects the actual size of the data. Moving to another question will save this response. 16

Explanation / Answer

1. Graduated Symbols - Graduated symbols are used to group the observation into numerical or categorical ranges. This means the data is classified into ranges and these ranges are assigned a symbol size each.

2. Datum - Datum specifies each and every location on the surface of earth in longitude and latitude. It gives a frame of reference for the Geographical co-ordinates of the earth and provides a proper description of the shape of the planet.

3. Ordinal Data - In this, the variables have natural ordered categories OR the data has a logical sense of order. The given example ranks the class of soil as 1 for best class of soil, 2 for not so good and 3 for bad class of soil; which has a natural order to the given ranking system.

4. Map Template - A map template is used to create new maps with the aid of common page layouts. One can, therefore, save time otherwise spent on reproducing common parts on the maps. This in turn helps standardize the maps and also increase productivity.

5. Proportional Symbol - proportional symbol maps have symbols proportional to the value of the data. This can also be termed as absolute scaling. For example, if we are marking the reported thefts in a city, the region with the highest number of reported thefts will have the biggest symbol, the second highest will be marked with a smaller symbol and the region with the lowest number of reported thefts will be marked with the smallest symbol.
