Question
Two fluids with mass flow rates m1 and m2 and, velocities V1 and V2 flow into a pipe, mix, and exit as indicated in the figure below. The amount of fluid leaving both exits is the same on the top and bottom outlets. The amount of fluid flowing in is given as m1 = constant and m2 = 2km1 - kF/V1 where k is a constant whose value is to be determined. This equation means that m2 is a function of the total horizontal force, F, required to keep the pipe stationary. Determine what m2 is at equilibrium in terms of the mass flow rates and velocities denoted in the figure. If the outlet fluid velocity is Vout = 55 m/s, the fluid density rho out = 1.2 kg/m3, and the total outlet pipe area is 0.15 m2, find the value of k. Other important values for this part of the problem are, m1 =7kg /s, V1 = 6 m/s, and V2 = 4 m/s.Explanation / Answer
for first case
use A1 = A2
m1 = A1*V1*p1
m2 = A2*V2*p2
since m2 == 2Km1 - KF/V1
put in this eqn...you will get the answer
in second case you just have to put the values in eqn..
if there is still any doubt on how to solve this problem just comment
