The thermosphere- . Why is the sky blue overhead and more white toward the horizon?

Explanation / Answer

Answer to the 1st: Other than moisture, three major components of the air are:

1. Nitrogen

2. Oxygen

3. Argon.

In the air the quantity of nitrogen is the most. Air contains Nitrogen 78.09%. Then Oxygen is 20.95% and Argon is 0.93%.

Answer to the 2nd question: Temperature variation can be seen in the atmospheric regions. These are:

The mesosphere: Temperature decreases in this region .

The stratosphere: Stratosphere ,which is also called ozone layer, temperature increases. ultraviolet ray is absorbed by this region and thus temperature increases.

The troposphere: Troposphere is warmer because it is near the earth surface. Though the troposphere is warmer , temperature decreases here at a rate of 6.4 degree C against 1000m hight above.

The thermosphere: Temperature increases in this region because of ultraviolet ray or X-ray absorption.
