SUMMARY

Energy production and Consumption

Energy sources of UAE : U.A.E has two main sources of energy. These are oil and natural gas. Other energy sources are coal and solar energy.

1. Oil production and consumption

a)Position in the world: Currently U.A.E is the 7th largest reserve of oil with 5.8% of the world's reserve. And 4th largest producer in the world.

b)Per day production: U.A.E produced 3.65 million barrels oil per day which is 4% of world's production. It is expected that the oil will totally consumed in next 80.7 years if production remains same.

c)Oil consume percentage: In U.A.E energy consumed was 35% from burning oil.

d)Growth of Oil energy production: Primary energy production increased 6.1% in 2013 compred to the previous year. A growth of energy production was 3.9% per year from 2002.

e)Comparing of energy consumption to energy production: In U.A.E energy consumption growth was aprrox two times than energy production in last 11 years i.e. 2002 to 2013.

2.Natural Gas production and consumption

a)Position in the world: Currently U.A.E is 7th largest reserve of natural gas with 2.9% of the world.

b)U.A.E- Importer of natural gas: Because of high energy consumption U.A.E has become a net importer since 2007. 62% was produced locally to fulfil the local demand.

c)Consumption of Natural gas: In U.A.E 45% of natural gas onsumed locally for electricity and water production and 55% consumed in indrustrial sectors.

d)Demand and growth of natural gas: Regarding to gas demand projection, gas demand is forecasted to grow from 37.9 BCM to 68.3 BCM between the year 2003 to 2013. It also been projected that according to the trend rate between 2008 to 2013 of 14.8% per annum, 2013 to 2020 of 56.5% per annum.

Conclusion: According to the demand prospects of energy , current and future shortages of natural gas, U.A.E leadership promoted a diversifted energy mixed from other conventional resources including renewable energy, coal and nuclear energy sources.
