Question
You are in possession of a perfectly-insulated (adiabatic) box containing 1kg of
helium at 600K. Would the box add energy to its surroundings if you opened it...
a) At your desk here on Earth?
b) At a desk in the center of the sun?
In addition to your original box of helium, you are given other boxes of helium,
in various conditions. Please indicate for each situation whether you have more or
less energy with the two boxes than you had with the one box.
c) You are given another kilogram of helium at 600K.
d) You are given another kilogram of helium at 6K.
Explanation / Answer
since the box is perfectly insulated no heat transfer takes place through it so in first two cases heat transfer does not take place
more energy is present in the box containing helium at high temperatures and vice versa
600k helium will have more energy than 6k
