The pros of using water ways for trading purposes are :-
1)It is an effective means of bulk transportation like that of heavy machinery ,cars , etc.
2)It is far more cost effective than air transport or rail transport.Hence,will increase profits in the business.
3)It can be considered a major force for development of remote and far reaching areas in a country.
4) It is more environment friendly in the sense that the pollution levels are lower than other modes of transportation.
The cons of water trading are :-
1) The majority of the water ways are government controlled and hence only big firms may be allowed to use it and small scale merchants would face difficulties.
2) If the water trading becomes competitive for certain products, it is always the firms in the cities and developed regions that would dominate and not firms in rural areas.
3) The water transport is much slower than other means of transport like air transport.
4) The water transport poses serious risk as there are chances of the ship or boats to sink.
