Question
Let’s say that you are from the West Coast and you have just been offered a job that requires you to live in one of three cities in Ohio (i.e., Toledo, Columbus and Cincinnati). From an environmental health perspective, you want to know which one of these cities is the best for you and your family to live. Using at least 3 metrics (e.g., air quality, drinking water quality, greenhouse gas emissions, brownfields, hazardous waste sites, food safety, vector-borne diseases, radiation, environmental toxins, etc.) please rank these three cities from best to worst. You will need to justify how you ranked your three choices using at least three national and/or state environmental data bases or tracking systems. You may also use comparable local data bases from the respective cities if available.
Explanation / Answer
There are many locations which have certain kinds of the environment and the geographical parameters which may support the life and help in the sustainable settlement while the other location may not. there are many factors and the geographical parameters which have the direct influence over this. the earth is consist of the different types of spheres like atmosphere, biosphere, lithossphere and hydrosphere. it should be very much important to know the basic aspects of the interrelations between them and help in the life settlement sustainably.
Now we need to find the environmental database for the given three cities. according to this above question, we have given the three locations and we are going to do the job in one of these three location. to move forward and settle any of the city we need to first justify as well as analyse the geographical parameters for these locations so that we can settle with our family properly. to do this first of all we need to gather the environental data like air quality, water quality, amout of the pollutant in the air etc of these locations. to do this we can take the help of the national or state environmental database. so lets begin with taking the cities one by one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Toledo- it is an ancient city which set on a hill abve the plain of castilla in the central spain. the city is well known for the monuments of jewish, arab, and christinity. now come to the points of the environmental database of this city then we have found that
the air quality is not upto the mark. as the pollutant in the atmopshere is very high which result in the increase of the air temperature and thus unfit for live a healthy life. due to the high number of the industries and the vehicle emission the amount of carbon increases and thus unfit for the settlement.
water quality is moderate level. it is due to the fact that the water in this region have been mixed somewhere with the industries wastes and land pollution also contribute to the pollution of the water. thus proper water management system should be there.
greenhouse gas is also at the high peak in this location due to high amount of carbon and pollutant in the atmosphere. thus make it warm amd hot region to live.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Columbus- this city is the capital city of ohio.the city have the infrastructure as well as the lots of forestrial area along with the rivers. it is the 14th most populated city in the united states. to live and settle there we need to knwo the environmental database of this location. so lets we have the following information of this location as below-
air quality- good and fit to live a healthy life.
water quality- as the city is have the rivers so fresh water supply is possible for the domestic prospectives.
greenhouse gas- due to the foresterial area the carbon get absorbed by this foresh and hence reduce the warming air content and also reduce the greenhouse emission to the atmosphere.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cincinnati- this is the city in the ohio which is set near to the ohio river. this city is famouse for the 19th century architectural works and infrastructure. the city have the green region as well as indutries too. the city is well developed and have the good relations with the science and environment.
air quality- moderate level.
water quality- partially polluted but by the help of technology it is siutable to consume.
greenhouse gas- moderate level due to less forest area.
So the rank of this three cities from best to worst as follow- 1)Columbus 2)Cincinnati 3)Toledo
